Ravi Shankar: a man who managed to transcend many barriers – East/West, race, gender, generation – and who managed to outlive many of the Western greats who made him famous over here, has died aged 92 in San Diego.

Not only did he teach John Coltrane, Don Ellis, and George Harrison and collaborate with Yehudi Menuhin and Alla Rakha, but he also played at Monterey Pop, the Concert for Bangladesh and Woodstock (all three!) and fathered the emmy award winning artist Norah Jones (like her or hate her, she has impressive genes).

A true musical legend. RIP.

“You are about to be transported to another age; swinging London in the late Sixties. The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is a time capsule. Two days in December 1968 that in many ways capturee the spontaneity, aspirations and communal spirit of an entire era. …for a brief moment it seemed that rock ‘n’ roll would inherit the earth.”
— David Dalton (founding editor of Rolling Stone Magazine)
